I had the priveledge of interviewing upcoming band Redskies for Worcester Newspaper, in regards to their headline gig at The Marrs Bar in their hometown.

A WORCESTER-based alternative rock band prepare to tear up the stage at their upcoming headline show at the city’s most iconic independent music venue.
Following the release of their singles ‘Be the one’ and ‘New Blood’, Redskies are more than ready to burst through their amps as they return to The Marrs Barr – a central point for upcoming bands in the city.
The enthusiasm these four have for their gig is tangible. Taylor Lewis, the band’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist, said: “I don’t think I could be more excited! Everybody’s got a bit of a buzz about this gig.”
With support from Lukash and PHON, Redskies are ready to raise the roof on July 30, with a sound that’s way beyond their size.
“Marrs Bar is a very, very special place to me,” Taylor said. The band shared how The Marrs Bar is more than just a venue to them – it is where most of the band met, worked, and regularly come together with like-minded people. “They care about the bands in the local area that are coming through and trying to actually make something happen,” he added.
Following recent grassroots venue closures across the UK, the band have rightly stressed the importance of venues like The Marrs Bar and the invaluable opportunities they offer to up-and-coming bands. Taylor said: “If we lose those [venues], then no one’s ever got a way to just gig and learn their trade – and it is a trade. It’s a hard thing to learn. Being on stage is terrifying.”
“It’s massively important to just do anything to contribute to that scene,” Gabe Jeynes said, with Sam Harrhy, the bassist, adding: “Live music is needed everywhere.”
In light of being completely independent, Olly Robinson, the drummer, said: “It’s always a risk if you’re the one headlining. You’ve got to sell all the tickets – it’s a bit of healthy pressure.”
Taylor added: “We are pretty good if we are worried about something, it pushes us to play harder. It gives us a boost to go, alright, we can do this. Let’s do it to the best of our ability, and if it doesn’t work then it doesn’t work. But at least we can say that we tried.”
Their unshakeable motivation and down-to-earth attitude is what has got them here – playing their third headline show. Redskies hard work is evident in their snowballing fan base of regular gig-goers and online listeners.
But they also said their bond helps them excel. Sam, the most recent addition to the band who joined a few months ago, fondly said: “We’re friends first, and then we play a bit of music. I know I’ve got a good support system with them.”
Looking to the future, Olly exclusively shared that their third single ‘Life I Saved’ is releasing next month. With much more recorded music on the horizon, it’s clear Redskies are just at the beginning of their journey.
Olly finally adds: “This gig is the perfect example of supporting a local band and a grassroots gig that’s just there because we want to have a good time.”
